Established in honor of Margaret’s birthplace, this centre is a vibrant hub for events, activities, and connections that strengthen our local community. Carrigallen Community Centre mission is to provide a welcoming space for everyone to come together, whether for learning, leisure, or celebration, hosting cultural events to supporting local initiatives, Corner Carrigallen Community Centre is at the heart of village life.

Margaret (Gaffney) Haughery was born in Tully, Carrigallen, County Leitrim, Ireland, in 1813. At the age of five, she emigrated to America with her family in 1818. Her life was marked by profound personal tragedies, including the loss of her husband and child by the age of 23. she devoted the remainder of her life to helping others. These experiences profoundly shaped her unwavering dedication to helping others.

Margaret was one of the first women in the United States to have a statue erected in her honour. Citizens of New Orleans commissioned a statue in her likeness soon after her death in 1882.  Margaret devoted her life to serving the vulnerable and underprivileged in New Orleans, earning the enduring love and respect of the community.
