31st January 2012 Sympathy There was widespread sadness in Carrigallen and surrounding areas on the recent death of Mary Brigid Murray (nee McIntyre), late of Gortermone, Carrigallen, Co Leitrim. Mary was a highly respected member of the community and a very good friend and neighbour. She met and married her late husband Noel in England. They moved back to Longford and then to Gortermone where she reared her much loved family. Mary enjoyed her many hobbies, she was an avid bingo goer and on numerous occasions in the past four generations of her family being present. There was a minute silence in her honour held at Carrigallen bingo. She loved dancing and meeting people. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Noel and by her brother Eugene. Sympathy is extended to her three daughters Mary Murray, Manchester, England, Kathleen Curran, Corriga, Carrigallen and Judy Mulligan, Lanesborough, Co Longford; her brother Tommy McIntyre, Wales; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; relatives and friends. May she Rest in Peace. Removal from her home was to St Mary’s Church, Carrigallen. Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr Denis Murray PP with burial to adjoining graveyard. SVP Thank You St Manachan's (Mohill) SVP Conference would like to thank everybody who kindly donated to our Christmas appeal whether by way of a monetary contribution or with our food appeal in Baxter's Centra and Eurospar. The response as always far exceeded our expectations once again confirming that the generosity of our local community is even in these unbelievably trying and difficult times unwavering. With your help this year we helped families with small children (Santy) with the huge amount of toys donated. We divided the food donated into over 25 Hampers all containing needy and everyday items. In the boxes were tins of biscuits and sweets, these went to families with children who I am positive under their circumstances would not have seen any such treats. From Mohill SVP Conference I wish all a Peaceful Healthy and Safe 2012. Ciorcal Comhra Interested in improving your Irish language speaking skills? If so this is your opportunity. Carigallen and Drumeela Active Age Carigallen and Drumeela Active Age held their annual Christmas Dinner at the Kilbracken Arms on December 19th – a day later than scheduled due to the extremely icy roads in the area on December 18th. In spite of having to re-organise everything at such short notice the staff at Kilbracken gave us a wonderful meal, much appreciated by all of us who were able to attend – our grateful thanks go to them. We are looking forward to 2012 and another year of outings, talks and of course our regular meetings, which will begin again in a few weeks’ time; the date and time, will be notified in the usual way. We hope to continue with some gentle exercises at the beginning of each meeting – this started very recently and we all appreciated Ann Harte, our Treasurer, (having completed the necessary course!), facilitating this for us. We certainly all felt the benefit! As always, Elizabeth Mulligan, our Secretary, will be looking for suggestions as to what the Group would like to do throughout the coming year. Ideas for outings, talks, destinations for short breaks, classes etc can be discussed at our next meeting – please make sure you come along with some proposals!
